To teach and improve life skills of special people through special animals.

Parades, parades, parades!!

The Lifesavers Therapeutic Riding Center had the opportunity to participate in the Headland Homecoming Parade 2011. It was an awesome site to see Carllee and Lilach's kids riding in the parade just like everybody else! We have said so many times... parents of special children just want their children to be treated as normal children! They want to ride in the parades just as normal kids do! And ride they did!!! It was a glorious moment when we rounded the corner at the bank and the crowd gave us a standing ovation!! We felt like we had "arrived"!! All we as instructors and program directors want, is for the public to become aware of our program, so they can tell others about us. This way, the more people that know... the more people they can tell!! A big thank you to the parents of our students, to our volunteers, and of course to our great horses. They never took a wrong step! Our horses have been exposed to so-o-o-o many things, that a parade is just "old hat". Our students, and all of our people were grinning the entire route. God blesses us daily with great and spectacular events to share.

Benefits of Therapeutic Riding..                                                                                                             275_275_2.
The benefits of Therapeutic riding include physical improvements, psychological and emotional advances, and social accomplishments that our clients achieve through a direct relationship with the horse. Riding a horse moves the body in a manner similar to a human gait, allowing riders with physical needs to realize improvement in muscle tone, strength, flexibility and balance. Once astride his or her horse, the animal functions as a surrogate cerebellum, providing the rider's neuromuscular system with varying inputs that closely approximate those that are experienced during normal human ambulation. The motion of the horse brings into play spinal reflexes, especially the righting reflex, which are rarely, if ever, used by wheelchair-bound persons. Head and trunk control can also be improved as a result of the need for the rider to look up in order to see where he or she is going. The positive effects on self-esteem, self-image and self-confidence in the students are also a result of therapeutic riding. Once astride a horse, the once spectator becomes a participant. Additionally, our riding program allows the students a chance to interact socially with not only other students like themselves, but other people who also have a love for horses!

The structure of LifeSavers Therapeutic Riding Center will be a blessing to the whole community as well as all those involved! This is a business venture that will touch your heart strings!

Saving lives through horses and hope.
